More recently, we took the time to explore the amazing image surrounding the property. If you have access to Google Earth or Google Maps, I would encourage you to look around the property. Go to Ramey, PA and scroll north east until you see the lake. The image was taken on October 6, 2011, and it has amazing clarity. On the North side of the lake, you can see the dock with the canoes, rowboats and kayaks stacked beside the dock. If you look to the west, you will see the mobile kitchen and the picnic tables that we used this summer. Continue to the west and you will see the roof of the equipment shed. The shed was our meeting room this past summer. The trail to the west of the shed is the Houtzdale Rails to Trails. That trail is the western border of the property. From the equipment shed move east and just a bit north and you can see the guy’s cabins. On this picture, two cabins are under roof and the third has only the foundation walls. If you now move north-east you can see our shale pit. The day of this photo, one of our faithful volunteers (Bob Jefferis) was working on the property. You can see that he had our Ford Backhoe and our John Deere tractor and wagon beside the shale pile. His white truck is over by the house. If you move south-west, you can see the girl’s cabins. Once again, two are under roof and the block walls are up on the third. You can also see the white frame of the shower tent. Just a few weekends earlier, the canvas of the tent was taken down for the winter. If you cross the lake, you can see the director’s home. Do you see the big spot of no trees near route 253? That is a large beaver dam. I could even give you a few more details, but that gives you a good overview of the property. Enjoy! Praise God for providing the property and thanks Google for providing the picture. 2012-02-18 06:49:50 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/googlesmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=149 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=148http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=148BanquetsOn March 19, 2010, we had our last Servant’s Heart Banquet. That was an exciting banquet. Although we had no idea what God was doing when we planned the banquet, eight days before the banquet the SHCM board voted unanimously to submit an offer for our current property. Three days before that banquet, we received the sellers acceptance of our offer. What a delight it was to announce that exciting news at that banquet.
Much has happened since that date, and we thought it was time to give our friends another in person update about what is happening here in Ramey. We have scheduled two banquets for this spring. One in Blair County (about 40 minutes from the new property) and one in Lancaster County. The first banquet is scheduled for 5:00 on Saturday, April 14 at the Prime Sirloin Steakhouse in Duncansville. The address is 501 Municipal Drive, Duncansville, PA 16635. The second banquet is scheduled for 6:15 on Friday, April 27 at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl. The address is 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl, PA 17519. Every adult with an interest in SHCM is invited to be our guest for one of these two banquets. The banquets will include great food, special music, skits, an update on the past and future goals at SHCM, and a short challenge from God’s Word. We will also be taking an offering each evening as we have significant financial needs. Please do not stay away from the banquet because you are not in a position to give. We want everyone with an interest in SHCM to get an update of what God is doing. Although there is no cost for the banquet, we do need to know who is coming. You can register on our website Each party will receive an email confirmation. We would love to see you at one of these banquets.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=147http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=147Winter Retreat VideosWe have been considering using more videos to highlight each week and also to promote the camp. Nathan experimented with the two recent winter retreats. If you would like to see a three minute video on each camp, click on the following links. Winter Retreat 1 . Winter Retreat 2 2012-02-04 06:10:31 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/wrvideosmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=147 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=146http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=1462nd Winter RetreatThe deer we saw at Timberwind Lodge were not the highlight of the weekend, but they did add an extra element of excitement. We even had some doe trying to play with the balls. I thought the picture on this blog might catch your attention.
Although the weather was very different than the first winter retreat, we had an outstanding time together. Our Evangelist was Dan Brubaker. It was very exciting to have an evangelist that was called to preach at Servant’s Heart Camp. This is how Dan describes his call to preach - In God’s perfect timing, He placed Dan at Servant’s Heart Camp, where the games, preaching, and spiritual atmosphere made a difference on his life. On Friday, June 13, 2003, the preacher began by announcing the title to his message and Dan knew he would not be staying in his seat during the invitation. He offered himself for the Lord’s service to be used in whatever way He would be pleased. Ever since then, Dan has had a strong desire for the ministry of evangelism, and he believes that this is the direction God has for his life.
We had another exceptional retreat with great fun, games, fellowship, and preaching from God’s Word. It is super exciting to see young people making commitments for the Lord.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=145http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=1451st Winter RetreatWe just returned from our first 2012 Teen Winter Retreat. It was a delightful time of crazy games, wonderful food, great fellowship, and some good preaching from the Word of God. It is refreshing to be around active and excited young people that are sensitive to the Spirit of God. If you would like to see some pictures click here. 2012-01-21 18:32:28 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/2012winter1small.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=145 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=144http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=144Preparing for the Winter RetreatsYesterday, Pat arrived home from one of her trips to pick up supplies for the upcoming winter retreats. Many of the items were not bagged (the result of shopping at discount grocery stores), and the van was LOADED with supplies. I carried the supplies into the house and placed them on the floor for her to sort, and organize. After they are boxed they get carried back to the van for the trip to Timberwind. She was taking the supplies away while I was bringing them in, but the pile just kept getting bigger. I thought to myself “wow that is a lot of stuff.” I grabbed the camera so that I could share the fun with you.
I did some quick calculations and realized that Pat (and her helpers) will be preparing 630 meals and snacks the next two weekends. That helped to explain the big pile of groceries.
Please pray that God would do a mighty work in the hearts of young people the next two weekends.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=142http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=142Thank you Temple BibleThis morning about 8:30, a group from Temple Bible Church arrived to work on a cabin. Although the temperature was about 16 and the real feel about 4, they began working on the cabin without any hesitation. The seventeen people split up into several groups and worked enthusiastically. One group worked on the cabin, while others burned brush, and hauled firewood. One gentleman even took the time to fix the starting switch on our John Deere tractor. As it was starting to get dark, they continue working trying to get the complete roof on the cabin before they left. Thank you Temple Bible and friends. You were a blessing. What do you think of when you hear someone talking about New Year’s resolutions? I often think of some lofty goals that are made around the first of January and are broken by the tenth of January. Because New Year’s resolutions are most often not kept, we tend to think that it is not a good thing to set some new goals at the beginning of each year. However, I think that January is a wonderful time to reflect upon what God has done for us and cautiously and prayerfully set goals for the New Year. Once you set a goal, be sure you are ready to make the necessary sacrifice to obtain what God has called you to do.

This past year, has been an outstanding year for SHCM - the first year on our new property. It was a miracle that we were able to have camp on the new property. God used many people to sacrifice in so many ways to make it happen. Not only were we able to have camp on the property, but God allowed us to see young people make some outstanding spiritual decisions. To God be the Glory!

In spite of the fact that it has been a long time since I blogged, many things are still happening at SHCM. Between Christmas and New Years, we started putting siding on the house. This week, the surveyors are on the property in preparation for the breech analysis on the lake. Today, they are checking the elevation of the living level of each home downstream to see if a break in the dam during flood conditions would cause the water to reach the living level of each home. Today, we also have a retired friend from Cavalry Independent Baptist Church working on various projects around the property. We are also planning some new retreats for this coming fall. In the next few weeks, we should have a brochure ready for a men’s retreat, single’s retreat, and a family retreat.

Will you join me in making 2012 a Christ-honoring year?

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=138http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=138Merry ChristmasSometime this Christmas season, I would encourage you to read the Christmas story from Philippians 2. In verse 7, we are told how Jesus Christ was made in the likeness of men. To us, that does not sound so bad. The only life we know is the life in the confines of this human flesh-suit. With teenagers I have used the example of a person willing to take on the likeness of an opossum. I don't know about you, but I think opossums are ugly and disgusting. I would not want to be an opossum. If, however, I were to take on the confines of an opossum it would not compare to what Christ did by taking on the confines of a human being. Not only did he take on the limitations of a human, but he died the most cruel death known to man. Why did He do it? He did it so that you and I could have life, not just any life but ABUNDANT life. Praise God for His sacrifice for us.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=137http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=137Board MeetingYesterday (December 5, 2011), we had a SHCM board meeting. Servant’s Heart Camp is governed by six different men from six different independent Baptist or Bible churches. Although we communicate frequently by phone and email, we have an enjoyable time of fellowship, food, and Mrs. Fry’s cooking when we get together for our meetings.

This morning, I received a phone call from the pastor of a very supportive church. That church has given generously and brought work teams on two occasions. They have been a blessing in many ways. The pastor knew that we had a meeting, and he called to ask a question. I thought, perhaps, others may have entertained the same question. In my words, this is what he asked - Because of the unbelievable challenges that you have faced, is the board still committed to this camp ministry and to developing this property.

Let me answer that question with a resounding “YES.” Although we wrestled with many difficult issues there was never a hint of despair or despondency. We believe that God has called us to this ministry, and we believe that he will provide our needs. Perhaps our meetings would be less intense, if the Lord would provide enough money to install all the utilities, finish all the cabins, and build a lodge.

If you would like to help with a yearend gift, our immediate need is to finish two additional cabins. The footers are dug and poured and the floor deck is installed. As the Lord provides the finances, we plan to finish those cabins. We would certainly love to have them finished by the start of summer camp.

Thank you for your interest in what God is doing at Servant’s Heart Camp. The fact that you are reading this blog is an indication that you have some interest. As the Lord bring this ministry to your mind, please pray for God’s perfect leading for the future.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=136http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=136A Cure for Cabin FeverOur upcoming teen winter retreats are rapidly approaching. I know I know, we will celebrate Christmas and New Years before the retreats, but the retreats will be here before you can say “snap, crackle, pop.” If you have been thinking about registering for the retreats, you better act quickly. The first retreat (January 19-21) only has a few slots remaining. The second retreat (January 26-28) still has 18 openings, but I know of several churches that are considering the retreat. Don’t allow your fever to soar. Register for the winter retreat and Cure Your Cabin Fever. This coming year (2012), we plan to repeat the theme of that very first year - Hidden Treasure. Each year the staff greets the campers dressed in the theme appropriate clothing. How many of the staff members do you recognize from 2002? Pictured from Left to right - Pastor Steve Walker, Rachelle Fry Krape, Pat Fry, Jim Fry, Phil Huber, Melissa Fry Madrid, and Brian Swaffer.2011-11-22 12:35:51 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/2002staffsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=135 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=134http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=134Saving for CampYesterday, I had the opportunity to fill the pulpit for Pastor Beard in Luthersburg. He had surgery on his neck this past week and was unable to preach. I taught the adult Sunday school class, presented the ministry of Servant’s Heart Camp in the morning worship service, and preached again on Sunday evening. After the morning service, Mrs. Beard invited us for Sunday dinner. After dinner Jared and Caleb showed me their special pickle jar. They are saving every available dollar hoping to accumulate enough money to come to camp next summer. Two years ago their family came to family camp, but they have never been to junior camp. They are very excited about coming to junior camp.

Their excitement about coming to camp renewed my excitement. I love to see juniors and teens coming to camp and having the time of their lives. Most of all, however, I love to see young people making life changing commitments. Although I want campers to have great fun, I never want fun to be the ultimate goal at Servant’s Heart Camp. We want to make our weeks of camp worth every dollar that is accumulated in that pickle jar both physically and spiritually.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=131http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=131Sermons OnlineThis past summer we recorded almost all the messages during summer camp. We also recorded four of the messages during staff training. Our goal was to put the messages on the website, so campers could listen over and over to messages that made a significant impact upon their lives. With Nathans sound room/radio experience, he was hoping to take the time and edit each message. Of particular concern was the buzzing of the generator in the background. To this point, we have not taken the time to edit and put the messages online. Recently, a concerned parent asked a very important question. That question was answered in a series that Pastor Shawn preached during staff training. We decided that we would put that series of messages on our website. If you would like to hear those messages click HERE. or go to the media tab on our website. Hopefully, we will be adding more sermons in the next months.2011-11-05 18:47:03 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/sermonssmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=131 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=130http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=130Fellowship BaptistToday, a group from Fellowship Baptist was scheduled to come and work on the new cabins. Because of the weather, I was fully expecting to receive a call that they were not coming. The call did not come, and they arrived about 9:00. It didn’t take me long to realize that these fellows came to WORK. They worked quickly and efficiently in spite of the snow. By lunch time most of the men were wet from the melting snow, but still in great spirits. After they had the floor on one cabin, they moved to the next. At that point, the camp director (me) did something very DUMB. I left the hoe of the backhoe in the footer while we were going to quickly change the fuel filter. The glass on the fuel filter broke, and the backhoe will not start until we get a new glass. The men could not finish the next cabin with the hoe in the middle of the foundation. Although I was very humbled the men had a great spirit. The men working on the other side of the lake on some electrical wiring in the house continue to work for several more hours. They are already talking about coming back again this year to continue where they left off. Wow, what a blessing.
This picture does not show all the workers. There were others working on the wiring. Thank you Fellowship Baptist.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=129http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=129DEPThere has been lots of action around the camp the past weeks, but we have been without internet for about nine days. Last week, several families were here helping with various projects. We love having people here and also seeing additional projects accomplished.
Many of you knew that we had a meeting with the DEP this past Monday. We arrived at the office of the DEP at about 9:30 for a 10:00 appointment. We did not leave the DEP office until about 1:00. There were 10 men sitting around the table and two additional men joined the meeting on a conference call. The DEP is very through in protecting the environment according to the current regulations. The meeting went well, and they did understand the need to run utility lines through some “exceptional value wetlands.” If our engineers work diligently, we should be able to have approval to start installing the utilities by late winter/early spring. The end of the meeting, however, changed the focus to the lake. The lake was built in 1972 and the DEP regulations for lakes went into effect in 1979. Before the DEP issues any permits for utilities, they will require that we (the engineers) do a breach analysis on the lake and also verify the integrity of the dam.
Thank you for your continued interest in Servant’s Heart Camp. Please continue to pray that God would clearly lead in every aspect of this camp ministry.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=128http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=128Ladies RetreatAlthough I did not have the opportunity to eat great food, see funny skits, play crazy games, have wonderful fellowship, and hear outstanding teaching from God’s Word, I hear that the ladies retreat was EXCEPTIONAL. What made the retreat so outstanding; you may ask. Certainly the components listed above contributed to the success of the retreat, but I was impressed by the reports of ladies leaving the retreat with a renewed fervency to be faithful to our great God. That is one of the major goals of all of our retreats. To God Be The Glory! If you would like to see some pictures of the retreat click HERE. 2011-10-15 18:31:24 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/2011ladiesretreatsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=128 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=127http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=127Move to RameyThis past Saturday, Mrs. Fry and I “officially” moved to Ramey. The house on the property is not ready and probably will not be ready for another year. Hopefully, within one year after we have all the utilities on the property, we will be able to move into that house. We are thankful that God provided one of the closest homes to the end of the Servant’s Heart driveway. We are delighted to be in a house in Ramey. Although the camper was ok, we were ready for something other than a porta-potty. This house is small, but it does have running water, central heat, a kitchen, and flushable toilets! Praise the Lord. 2011-10-03 13:18:08 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/railroadstreetsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=127 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=126http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=126Sacrificial GivingThis week, nine-year-old Caleb Walker and his family stopped at the camp during his family’s vacation. Caleb was excited to come with his (5) twenty dollar bills. Caleb (with his parents help) has stated a small business. This business adventure helps him to learn responsibility and to earn some money. I do not know how much money he made, but I do know that he was excited to give $100.00 to the Lord’s Work. It is always exciting when children sacrificially give to help God’s work.
Last month, Shalissa Madrid (our five-year-old granddaughter) emptied her piggy bank and brought $2.25. That was all she had.
I am so very thankful for the sacrificial gifts of children. I am confident that God will abundantly reward them as they make that a pattern in their lives.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=125http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=125The Dining Tent Comes DownThis past Thursday through Saturday, a group from Dublin Mills were on the property to help with various work projects. They worked hard and accomplished many tasks. They took down the guys shower tent, and also the dining tent. It was almost sad to see the dining tent come down after eating in that tent for over three months. In addition to many other projects, they also started clearing the playing field on the “camp” side of the lake. They cut an amazing amount of wood and burned huge piles of brush and branches. We would love to use a portion of the new playing filed this coming summer, but we still have an unbelievable amount of work to finish the field. Thanks Dublin Mills for all your hard work!2011-09-20 10:09:44 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/dublinsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=125 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=124http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=124Far Above RubiesWithout utilities, the conditions here at camp are less than ideal. Recently, Pat was preparing food for a work group. That morning, she could not use the mixer because the generator at the mobile kitchen would not start. She quickly improvised by taking her mixer and bowl of ingredients across the lake to the generator at the house. Unfortunately, it was raining that morning. The picture shows her adaptability as she held her umbrella under her chin while she used her spatula and mixer to accomplish the needed task.
As I snapped this picture, I quickly thought of Proverbs 31:10: Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=123http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=123Thanks Bible BaptistThis past Friday evening and Saturday, Pastor and Mrs. Kile and some teens from Bible Baptist returned to SHCM for some work projects. It is a huge blessing to have teens and adults come and help with the many projects.
We have some beavers on the property that like to continually dam the culvert that runs under the Rails to Trails. We have worked in conjunction with the folks from the Rails to Trails trying to keep the Beavers from making a swamp below our lake. Time after time, we have removed sticks and mud from in front of the culvert, but beaver are not easily discouraged. Along with many other projects, the teens from Bible Baptist removed sticks from inside the culvert and added additional fencing to keep the beaver out of the culvert. Thanks teens!

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=122http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=122Next Two CabinsIn the early spring, some friends sent money for half a cabin and asked if we could raise the money for the other half. We left our supporting friends know about the need and the Lord provided not only the other half of the cabin, but about $6,000 extra. We decided to use that extra money to pour footers and lay the block for two additional cabins. As additional monies come in over the winter, we can continue building cabins without being delayed by frozen ground.
It was a huge blessing to have the concrete company place the blocks directly into the foundation. When we ordered the block for the first two cabins, the snow prevented the truck from getting up the hill to the cabins. The blocks were unloaded at the bottom of the hill, and we had to manually move the block into the foundation. When we ordered the blocks for the second two cabins, the truck got stuck in the mud before he arrived at the cabins. Once again, we had to manually move the block into the foundation. It was a real blessing to have the blocks placed directly into the foundation for the next two cabins.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=121http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=121ToolsAbout a year and a half ago, Ronald Mace went home to be with the Lord. I love the wording on the funeral bulletin. (see below)
During his life Ronald was an avid wood worker, and his basement was filled with tools. Ronald's family decided to give all his tools to Servant's Heart. Our shed is now stocked with saws, drills, routers, planners, mortising tool, grinders, sanders, clamps, and a host of hand tools. We are thrilled and excited about all the projects we will be able to do with these these tools.
We are thankful for the Mace family allowing Ronald's tools to be used for God's glory.

It is always exciting to see young people giving their nickels and pennies to help with God’s Work. Even small offerings are a blessing to our ministry. When I heard the amount of the offerings, however, I was stunned. Wow, what a blessing. Obviously these children brought more than nickels and pennies. Between the two churches they gave over $2,500.00. Praise the Lord

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=119http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=119Relaxing???Perhaps, you wonder if we have anything to do now that camp is over. Yes, we continue to stay very busy. It is now one week since summer camp, and we still do not have everything cleaned and stored away for next summer.
Both inflatables were waterlogged from the rains the final days of camp. We set them up in the field, washed off the mud, and left them to dry. These and many other jobs have kept us very busy this week.
Hopefully, next week we can work on the schedule, theme, speakers, and brochures for next summer's camp. We also need to get busy on on winter retreats. As soon as have those project underway, we will start working on the many projects to continue developing the camp property.
We are very busy, but praise the Lord, it is a good busy.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=118http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=118Great SummerIt is Friday evening, but there was no campfire service. The property is not buzzing with the voices of excited campers. Our first summer camp on the new property is now history. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to come to the end of the summer camp season. This evening, I reflected upon the summer and upon the wonderful testimonies given at the camp fire services. In many ways, this may have been our best summer ever. There were many young people that received the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Many others made other significant decisions. As I pondered why this was such an outstanding summer, I had a thought. Perhaps, more people were praying for SHCM this year then any year in the past. So many people knew about the challenges that we faced and faithfully prayed for us. We serve a great God and He does answer prayer.
If you are one of the many that pray for Servant's Heart Camp, I would like to express my sincere gratitude. If you are one of the young people that made important decisions this past summer, please remain faithful to our great God. If we can help you in any way, please contact us.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=117http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=117"Portable" UtilitiesAs you know, we do not have utilities here on the camp property this summer. Maybe you are wondering what it is like without them. It can be interesting sometimes being without those conveniences that we are so accustomed to, but I have become convinced that human beings can adapt to their surrounding quite well. We are very thankful for the many things that people have given to us to make this summer easier.

Right now we have 7 generators throughout the property that provide electricity at different times throughout the day. Both the girl’s and guy’s cabins have a generator which they are able to run in the morning, before rally, and at bedtime. The kitchen has a generator, the shed where the rally is held has a generator, and the office has one which runs pretty much all day. We also have one for the speaker to use and one that we use to run the bungee run and obstacle course. Those that sleep in tents or campers either plug into one of the said generators or go without electricity.

As for water here on the property, we go through approximately 40 gallons of drinking water a day. We get ice at the local general store and our water is delivered once a week. There are six water coolers stationed throughout the property. The showers here at camp are both hot and cold. There are two shower tents, one for the guys and one for the girls. Each tent has two big water tanks that sit up the hill from the cabins. There are two big tanks that are filled with water at the neighbors and hauled by the tractor to the tanks. This is almost a daily job...especially during teen camp. The showers work quite well, and we never run out of hot water.

I am guessing that most campers that come would say that the lack of utilities truly is not that noticeable. The kitchen staff probably notices it the most because they have to haul both food and water a mile and a half.

The refrigerators are located down the lane and in the neighbors shed. We are very thankful for our neighbors. They provide both water and a place to plug in our refrigerators and freezers. What a huge blessing! We are also thankful for the donated kitchen trailer, the generators that have been provided and the water pump and tanks used to create showers. Those things have made such a difference this summer.

You now know a little bit more about how things are done here without utilities. Yes, at times it can be a little inconvenient to go mile and a half for that forgotten gallon of milk; or have the generator run out of gas and shut everything down, but all in all things have been working out quite well this summer. To God Be the Glory for how He has enabled us to have camp here in Ramey, PA!

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=116http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=116UtilitiesThis picture shows the area that we cleared in preparation for bringing utilities on the property. We were anticipating that we would receive the approvals to bring utilities on the property this spring. Rather than receiving a call that we were approved to start installing utilities, we received a call that our permit had been denied. Apparently our engineering firm submitted the wrong permits. They did not realize that we had “exceptional value wetlands.” After much discussion, we decided to bring our utilities in along our lane. Although it is considerably farther, we can avoid the wetlands. It seems that things have been moving very slowly. This week, however, a representative from the DEP, came to the property. He seemed very amiable, and had a desire to solve our problems. He is scheduling a higher level DEP individual to come to the property and review our options. We would love to start installing our utilities this fall. The home is nearly completed, and we would love to be able to move in as soon as possible. Please pray that God’s would show Himself strong as we continue to develop this camp property for His glory. 2011-08-03 08:53:08 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/utilitiescrossingsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=116 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=115http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=115Summer Camp StaffHere is a picture of the staff here at camp this summer. There is a total of twenty-four staff members. This includes counselors, junior counselors, directors, kitchen staff, office staff, and operational staff. It is our prayer that the staff would not only be instrumental in the lives of the young people that come here, but that they too would be strengthened in their walk with the Lord. We are convinced that the activities, the speakers, and the food does not affect a week of camp as the staff does. We believe that the staff is what makes the biggest difference. A strong, God-focused staffs greatly enhances a camp week. Pray that our staff would be fully surrendered and submitted to the Lord…today and every day! 2011-07-27 13:27:41 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/2011staffsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=115 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=114http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=114DockOn July 2, (two days before the start of our first camp), a group from Heritage Baptist Church came and started installing the new dock. It was a very chilly morning, but the men went right into the water and started the project. Before they left that day, they had the dock well underway. In fact, we thought that we would be able to finish it on Monday morning before the campers arrived. Other jobs kept taking priority and we were unable to work on the dock until this past weekend. The platform of the dock is now complete, and the staff and campers will be able to use it this week. The dock is a great blessing! Sitting there with the moon glistening on the water and your feet hanging over the edge of the dock is a perfect spot for meditating upon the goodness of God. It is so peaceful and relaxing.
Wow, what a blessing.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=113http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=113Catharine FryIn October of 2010, Mom had the opportunity to see the new camp property for the first and only time. I am thrilled that she was able to experience firsthand the progress on the property. Dad and Mom were always very generous to all the members of the family, and they were excited about family members serving God around the world (Portugal, Mexico, and all across United States). Today, however, Mom has an even greater joy. She is able to see her precious Savior and be reunited with her wonderful husband. On July 1 after a brief illness, Mom went home to be with the Lord. Luke 12:48 tells us that of “whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” For me, that is a sobering thought. Dad and Mom were wonderful examples of a Christ honoring lifestyle. I can only remember of one disagreement in our home growing up, but I can remember countless times when dad and mom invited people into their home for encouragement and Christian fellowship. I can also think of those that have come to Christ and are serving Him today as a result of their testimony. Yes, I have been given MUCH, but I am thankful for my godly heritage. My desire is to faithfully serve my great God until the day that He escorts me into heaven to spend eternity with the one that gave His Life for me. Oh yes, I also look forward to being reunited with my dad and mom. 2011-07-13 12:00:33 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/momsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=113 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=112http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=112Exceeding AbundantlyEphesians 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or thing, according to the power that worketh in us,”.... This is a picture of our fourth cabin. Just as the verse says, God has provided exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think. Not only has He provided the funds needed to finish this cabin, but through the gifts of generous people we have exceeded the needed funds for it. We are thankful for this extra money that we will be able to put toward many other significant needs. It will be neat to see how God provides for future cabins. There have been many hands involved in the building of these cabins. We are so thankful for the many people who have given of their time in the last few weeks to see them completed! Praise the Lord we now have four completed cabins filled with campers. What seemed like an impossibility to us, has become a reality with God. 2011-07-07 08:04:39 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/cabin4small.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=112 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=111http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=111Working TogetherLynn Peacock graciously brought his 18 horsepower bulldozer to camp. It was amazing what he could accomplish with that 1957 John Deere. He moved LOTS of ground and prepared the parking area for the parents when they arrive. It was a real blessing. On the final day that Mr. Peacock worked on the property, we asked if he could move a large stump. We had already tried to move it with our backhoe, but it was too large for the hoe. Although he tried to move it with his bulldozer, he was unable to make any progress. Finally, Nathan pulled the stump with the backhoe while Mr. Peacock pushed the stump with his bulldozer. Together they were able to move the stump to the desired location. As I thought about them working together, I thought about our working relationship. Many of you have told us that you are praying for us, and that has been a huge encouragement. Some days the challenges seem overwhelming, but I am convinced that the Lord hears and responds to the prayers of God’s people. If anything of eternal value happens on this camp property, it will because of God’s Spirit. Zachariah 4:6 states “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Thank you for working with us as we seek to make an impact upon lives for eternity. We sincerely appreciate your prayer support. 2011-06-23 06:53:07 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/workingtogethersmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=111 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=110http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=110Thank You First BaptistMany months ago Pastor Anglea from First Baptist talked to us about bringing a teen work group for an entire week. Although we were excited about having a group of teens on the property, we were not convinced how much work they would actually accomplish. Wow, were we in for a pleasant surprise. They worked very hard the entire week and far exceeded our expectation as to how much work they would complete. Click here for a few pictures of the week.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=109http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=109Mobile Kitchen ArrivedToday was another exciting day as we approach the start of staff training and summer camp. Larry Wolfe from Jersey Shore left his home at 4:30 this morning. He drove to Elizabethtown and picked up the mobile kitchen at Gene Wenger Meats and Fine Food. By about 12:30, he arrived at the camp property. He skillfully pulled the trailer across the breast of the lake and backed it into the prepared spot. After he toured the property, ate lunch, and set up the trailer; he returned to Jersey shore. A special THANK-YOU to Gene Wenger Meats for providing the mobile kitchen and to Larry Wolfe for transporting it. 2011-06-07 16:11:38 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/wolfekitchensmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=109 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=108http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=108SignThis past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was our last scheduled work weekend before the start of staff training. Although we had less people than last weekend, there were a number of significant tasks accomplished.
The sign at the end of our lane is the first project you would notice. Matt and Rachelle have been working on the sign at home, and they installed it this weekend. This sign makes a great first impression as you enter the camp property. Why don’t you schedule a time to come and tour the property? We would love to show you what God is doing at SHCM.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=107http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=107Dublin MillsJust before one of the winter retreats in January, I went to the mailbox and found a $1,000 check from Dublin Mills. Because I was not familiar with the church, I did a bit of research and found that Brother Sam Stoey was the pastor, and his daughter was at camp last summer. Every month since January, we continue to receive significant checks from this church. In May, I had the opportunity to present the ministry at Dublin Mills. Pastor Stoey and his church selected this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as the dates for a mission trip to Servant’s Heart Camp. Throughout the three days there were almost 30 workers here from Dublin Mills. The group worked very hard and many significant tasks were accomplished throughout the weekend. Pastor Stoey was a great example of a very diligent worker throughout the weekend. Here he is on the John Deere tractor with his John Deere Shirt. Thank you Dublin Mills. You are a blessing.
A few other churches also joined Dublin Mills this past weekend. They were also a tremendous blessing. On Saturday, we had 48 people working on the property. It was a joy to see many jobs being completed. If you would like to see pictures of the weekend click here.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=106http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=106Personal BlessingLast summer after SHCM finalized the purchase of the 214 acres, Mrs. Fry and I began talking about the advantages of having ATVs on the property. After camp last summer, the staff gave us a generous gift to put toward a four wheeler. Since that time, we would put aside any “extra” money with the intent of purchasing an ATV. Many months ago, I began to pray that God would provide a four-wheeler with an open front so that Pat could use the four-wheeler while wear a skirt without sitting side-saddle. When we priced the open front four-wheelers, however, we discovered that they were way out of our price range. Recently, we saw a John Deere Buck with the open front advertised at a very good price. We were able to look at the unit the very next day. We bought the unit for less than 50% of its value and that was within our budget. God blessing was not because of my insignificant prayers, but because of His goodness. We serve a great God.

Already the unit has been a great blessing as Mrs. Fry runs errands, paints cabins, prepares food, and delivers snacks on both sides of the lake. To God be the glory.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=105http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=105May Work DaysThis past weekend was our scheduled work days for May. Although the numbers were lower than the April Work days, we are grateful for the great deal of work that was accomplished. On Thursday, a group from Faith Bible came to help with painting in the home. Throughout the weekend several other families helped with various other projects including painting the bathrooms in two cabins, varnishing the knotty pine siding in one cabin, putting log siding on that same cabin and putting a roof and deck on another cabin. The cabins are starting to really look neat. I will try to post an updated picture soon. A special thank you to each one that helped. You were a blessing! 2011-05-11 11:47:52 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/mayworksmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=105 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=104http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=104Anthony Baptist ChurchLast Sunday (Easter), we attended Anthony Baptist Church. We were planning to attend services at Anthony in the morning and evening and spend time with family on Sunday afternoon before we went back to the property on Monday morning. We had a delightful time on Sunday morning. After the message, Pastor Shawn asked Mrs. Fry and me to come forward. We were not sure what was happening. What we learned is that Anthony Baptist approved a certain dollar amount to give to the camp. On top of that amount, they designated the month of April for special offerings for Servant’s Heart. Deacon Larry Wolf presented us with an envelope. We were thrilled, excited, and flabbergasted when we opened the envelope. This small body of believers presented the camp with a $10,000 check. Apparently, they approved $5,000 from the church funds and the other $5,000 came as offerings during the month of April. Wow! What a blessing.

Perhaps, you are thinking that the other half of the cabin is now provided. Well, that was one of our first thoughts. Anthony Baptist made it clear, however, that we should use the money wherever it was needed. Because of some flood plain issues, we were asked to relocate our sewage pumping station. With the change of location and elevation, we had to update our pumping station. This week we received the new quote which was $24,000 higher than the original quote. We were stunned. We are so very thankful for the generous gift from Anthony that will go toward the more expensive pumping station.

We have taken some money in for the half cabin fund, but we still need much more. At this point, that cabin will not be completed until the funds are provided. Praise God! He is faithful!

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=103http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=103April Work DaysThis past weekend was our scheduled April workdays. Throughout the weekend, we had groups from Anthony Baptist Church, Bible Baptist Church, Faith Bible Church, Grace Bible Church, and Steam Valley Bible Church. In a very unique way the Lord orchestrated the skills of the individuals in the groups to accomplish many needed tasks. The major tasks for the three days were to insulate the home, pour the concrete in the storage shed, put log siding on one cabin, and construct another cabin.

Many of the volunteers worked extremely hard to accomplish the many tasks. The conditions were less than ideal, and many of the jobs were not pleasant. Have you ever spent two days straight insulating? I suspect there are several people that would not care if they would never see another piece of insulation in their entire life. Because of the wet and rainy weather, the concrete would not dry. The faithful concrete family was not able to finish the concrete until about 2:00 AM.

Late Friday afternoon, Pastor Patterson from Bible Baptist Church stopped to see the camp property. When he saw the tents and rainy conditions, he offered some of his Sunday School rooms for sleeping on Friday evening. About 13 of the volunteers went to the church and stayed in Sunday School class rooms. It proved to be a very good choice. Friday night it rained heavily and a severe thunderstorm passed through the area about 4:30 AM.

Saturday, the sun came out and we had a beautiful day to finish our work weekend. If you would like to see pictures of the weekend click here.

A very special “thank you” to everyone that helped with the many work projects.

The next scheduled work days are May 5 - 7. We would love to have you join us. If you would like to come another time, please let us know. There is LOTS of work to be accomplished between now and summer camp.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=102http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=102Work DaysSHCM has scheduled three weekends to give churches and interested individuals an opportunity to come and help with work projects. The three scheduled times are April 21 - 23, May 5 - 7, and June 2 - 4. We are encouraging folks to come for one day or bring a sleeping bag and stay for two or three days.

Food - We will provide meals Thursday lunch through Saturday Supper. Please contact us by Monday of each work weekend to let us know which meals you will be able to join us.

Accommodations - As of today, we do not have occupancy permits to stay in the cabins or home. We do, however, have 16 mattresses in the upper level of the storage shed. This area is reserved for men. For this coming weekend, however, we plan to pour the concrete for the first floor of the shed. We should still be able to use the upper level for sleeping, but you will not have access to the upstairs from about 7:45 am to 8:00 pm on Friday. Recently, we were given an almost new 14 X 16 tent (thanks Hostettlers). If you do not have a tent, let us know and you can use this nice tent.

Bathrooms - As of now, we only have a porta-potty.

Rally - On Thursday and Friday evening, we will have a service. You will be encouraged by a challenge from God’s Word, singing, and some great fellowship.

Dress - As many of you know, we typically ask you to bring better clothing for the evening rally. During these work weekends, however, you are welcome to come to the rally in your work clothing. After we have bathrooms and showers, we will go back to our original format.

Work Projects - If you have a skill, we can probably use it. In addition to constructions skills, we have trees to cut, brush to clear, cabins and home to be painted, junk to clean up, and many various other jobs.

Options - Some churches would like the option to come on another weekend. If you would like to come with your church or Sunday School class on another weekend, please contact us. We would love to work with your schedule. There is much to be done before camp.

Thanks for your interest in SHCM.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=101http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=101Bible Baptist ChurchIn March, we had the opportunity to be a part of the mission’s month at Bible Baptist Church in Kreamer. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the church and felt a real bond in Christ. Today, I received a call from Pastor Krampert. The church has added SHCM to their family of missionaries. We are thrilled to have the prayer, moral, and financial support of this solid, independent, fundamental church. Thank you Bible Baptist! 2011-04-12 15:23:16 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/bbckreamersmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=101 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=100http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=100Half a CabinLast evening, a friend of the ministry called to tell me about an offer. He and his wife have prayed about their part in the ministry of Servant’s Heart Camp. They believe that God would have them help with a cabin. They expressed their desire to give a $10,000 matching gift. They would like to see others with an interest in God’s work at Servant’s Heart sponsor the other ½ of the cabin.
This dear family is not part of a business. He spent his life faithfully serving God as a blue-collar worker. Since his retirement, they seek opportunities to serve God with their time, talent and finances. Their sacrificial gift is a huge encouragement to the ministry.
We are confident that as folks are obedient to God’s leading the other ½ of the cabin will be supplied. If you would like to be part of this project, please mark your gift “½ cabin fund.” If we receive monies above the $10,000, we will put that money toward future cabins.
We are looking forward to telling this couple that the other ½ of the cabin has been provided. I personally would like to reach this goal by the end of April. Yes, I do realize that would be a major victory as most people do not read this blog, but rather read our newsletters. The next newsletter does not go out until early spring. I certainly believe that God is bigger than newsletters and blogs.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=99http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=99Reward in GloryIn the blog one week ago, I described my feelings of being overwhelmed when the men at Faith presented the camp with tools and a tool chest. Yesterday, my feelings intensified.
Gerald Stevens has battled cancer for the last few years. Yesterday was his memorial service. The past several months he was confined to a nursing center as the days of his time here on earth ticked away. His wife, Loretta, faithfully spent time with him in those last months. When Faith sent out an email to the men of the church describing the tool and tool chest project, Loretta read the email to Gerald. After hearing the email, he told Loretta that he would like to be part of that project.
I was deeply touched by this believer lying on his death bed, but still desiring to be part of God’s work. I wish that I could have given him a sincere thank you, but I am confident that his reward in heaven will be a far greater reward than my insignificant gratitude.

Thank you for your prayer support. Although we started working on the right-of-way issue the beginning of August, we are thankful that all of the needed documentation is now recorded in the courthouse. Today, I talked to the electric company and the phone company and they are both ready to move forward. For those of you familiar with the property, the blue line shows the approximate location of the utilities easement. Thank you for your continued prayer support.2011-03-28 18:33:24 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/rightofwaysmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=98 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=97http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=97OverwhelmedLast evening, Faith had a men’s fellowship activity. It is usually a good time of eating, fellowshipping and a challenge from God’s Word. Last night after the challenge, they wheeled in a Craftsmen tool chest. I was chatting and not really paying attention to the guys at the door. About that time they asked if I would come forward for a presentation. I soon learned that the men of the church realized the need for SHCM to have some additional tools and a place to store them. I was overwhelmed as I admired the beautiful tool chest with non-skid rubber in each drawer and a heavy rubber mat on the top work surface. As I opened each drawer, I found lots of Dewalt tools including an impact driver, drill, flashlight, and reciprocating saw. In addition to the power tools, there was also a pruner, wonderbar, a fancy UT knife, WD40, and duct tape.
I trust that these tools will be used in the background of the camping ministry to impact lives for eternity.
I understand that some folks from Grace and Truth also helped with this project. I was overwhelmed as I realized the sacrifice and support of my peers. Thank you for your support. It is sincerely appreciated.

They began working on the block foundation of the 2nd cabin. Their goal was to have the cabin under roof by the time they left on Saturday evening. They worked feverishly and long hours to meet that goal. By about 8:30 on Saturday evening they finished the sheeting on the cabin. I know that many men arrived home very tired late Saturday night.
You can click here to see some pictures of the weekend.
A very special thank you to each person that labored so tirelessly. It was a real blessing.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=95http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=95Another BlessingThursday morning started as a bit of a difficult morning. During the night I knew it was COLD. When the alarm rang, I did not want to get out of the covers. I finally crawled out to turn on the heat. Before I climbed back under the covers, I checked the inside temperature and it was 15 degrees. Before I finished my devotions, John (our contractor) called to tell me that he was sick and would not be coming. With an outside temperature of about 10 degrees, the next challenge of the day was visiting the porta-potty. It might have been very invigorating, but it was not fun. I finally finished breakfast, got bundled up and started my tasks for the day.
During that morning, I received a call that made me forget all the struggles of the morning. Although it was a brief call, I lifted my voice in praise when I hung up - another cabin sponsored. I was very excited. Praise God for this obedient couple that has sponsored their 2nd cabin.
I am very thankful for every person that prays, contributes, and works at the camp. Each one is vitally important to the ministry. God simply asks each person to be faithful. Recently, I received an email from an individual lamenting the fact that he was unable to sponsors a cabin. Although he did not go into detail, he was anticipating a certain project to yield $20,000. Currently, however, that account was (in his words) a goose egg. I am thankful for those that give regular gifts and for those that have the desire to give gifts, sponsor a cabin, or work at the camp.
We know of others that are considering sponsoring a cabin. We are confident that as churches and individuals follow God’s perfect leading, our needs will be met. We praise God for each person that has shown an interest in the ministry and manifested their support through prayer, giving, and work projects on the property.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=94http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=94Calvary Independent Baptist ChurchA very special thanks to Pastor Coleman and the dear folks at Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Huntingdon, PA. The church has begun supporting Servant's Heart Camp as one of their missionary endeavors. The church has already been a blessing to Servant's Heart in so many ways. When we presented the ministry at the church the people were receptive and excited. Several people from the church have been on the property and helped with various projects. The monthly financial support is a huge asset and the prayer support from the church is an indescribable blessing. Thank you Calvary for your support. 2011-02-26 18:54:08 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/calvarysmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=94 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=93http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=93Cabin ProgressThe first cabin is now under roof and the wiring has been started. The shower is in the cabin and ready for installation. By the end of next week, we should be ready for the knotty pine boards on the inside of the cabin. As soon as we order and receive the log siding, it will also be ready for installation. Just yesterday, we priced the siding at an Amish sawmill. It seems they may have the best pricing.
The footers for the second cabin have also been poured. We started laying the block, but the snow stopped our progress. With the warmer weather in the forecast, we should be able to have the block completed next week. Now, we are looking for a church or interested individuals that would be willing to come and build the second cabin. We provide the food and you provide the man power. In a few days, a group of several guys could put a cabin under roof.
Thanks for your interest in Servant's Heart Camp. We are excited to see how God uses this camp for His glory.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=92http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=92Muscles NeededOn Wednesday, February 16, the engineering firm is scheduled to come and check the perk rate at 9 locations on the property in preparation for designing the storm water management plan. Three holes must be dug at each site for a total of 27 holes. Only 9 of the holes can be dug with power equipment. The other 18 holes must be dug by hand. Apparently, an auger compacts the soils and decreases the perk rate. On that day the mason is also schedule to lay the block for the second cabin, and we are committed to helping mix mud and carry block. In addition, we hope to be working on the framing on the inside of the first cabin on that day.
If you have cabin fever and would like to get out of the house and get some exercise we could provide your needs. It cost money to go to the gym, but you can come to camp for free. Lunch is on us!
They are predicting for Wednesday to be one of the warmest days we have seen in two months. It would be a great day to see the property. If you are able to help on that day, please let us know. Thanks! Oh yes, I do know how to use a shovel. I just didn't have a picture of a shovel being used on the property.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=90http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=90Cabin Fire SprinklersThe weather in Ramey continues to be cold. Because we are trying to keep the project moving forward, we opted for the extra work of setting up a tent over the cabin site to lay block. On Tuesday January 25, the concrete blocks were scheduled to arrive. When the drivers saw the snow covered hill, they informed us that they would not be able to drive up the hill and place the blocks directly in the foundation. Instead, they unloaded the concrete blocks at the bottom of the hill. We than loaded them on the trailer, took them to the top of the hill, and carried them into the foundation, and stacked them. Yes, we did have very tired muscles. On Thursday the mason started laying the block. The foundation work should be finished the first few days of February. As soon as the foundation is completed, we will begin framing the walls. One of the big blessings of this past week was a call stating that our request for a variance had been approved. We requested a variance for the sprinkler systems in the cabins. Not only are the sprinklers very expensive, but we questioned their benefit in a small cabin. We explained that we do not believe that sprinkler system would save lives in a small cabin. In fact, we were concerned about the chaos if a sprinkler system tripped in the middle of the night. The Moshannon Valley Council of Governments understood our position and voted unanimously to grant us a variance for the sprinkler systems. A special “thank-you” to those who prayed about this situation. To God be the glory. 2011-01-31 17:11:42 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/cabinblocksmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=90 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=89http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=89Trickle-Down BlessingA friend of Faith Bible Church gave Faith enough money to buy new tables and chairs for the class rooms and fellowship hall. Rather than selling the "old" chairs, the church gave them to Servant's Heart Camp. Wow, what a blessing. The first 48 chairs are loaded on the trailer and ready to go to the new property tomorrow morning. They will be stored in the new shed until they are needed this summer. The remainder of the chairs will be taken to the new property over the next few weeks. 2011-01-24 23:13:19 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/chairssmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=89 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=88http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=88Prayer CardWe are excited that the Lord has given us the opportunity to visit a good number of churches in recent months. In the next few months we are scheduled to visit many more churches. Some of the churches that we visited asked for prayer cards. We would certainly like to encourage individuals and churches to pray for the ministry. We realize that if anything of eternal value will be accomplished, it will because of God's power. Just today, we finished our prayer card and sent it off to the printer. If you or your church would like a stack of prayer cards, please contact us. We would love to send them to you. This picture at least allows you to see the front of the card. Thanks for praying. 2011-01-20 11:08:34 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/prayercardsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=88 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=87http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=871st Cabin Started! This week, we poured the footers for the first cabin. We are now waiting for pricing from two local masons to lay the foundation walls. As soon as we pick a mason, we will watch for a week of 30-degree temperatures so we can lay the walls. After the foundation walls are up, we plan to immediatly begin framing the cabin.
A special thanks to the three people shown in the picture.
John Duerksen - John is an independent contractor with a real passion for ministry. He has given us a VERY attractive labor rate, and he is able to accomplish a great deal of work each day. He has already worked on the shed, the home, and this cabin footer. He will be orchestrating the framing of this cabin as soon as the masons are finished.
Bob Jefferis - Bob is a retired farmer who would rather work than sit and grow old. Since we first met early in December, he has volunteered at the camp several days almost every week. He has cut wood, hauled shale, wheeled concrete, helped John, and various other tasks.
Nathan Fry - Nathan has spent countless hours on the property in the past months and has become very proficient on the backhoe. He also has been involved in almost every aspect of the process of developing this property.
These three men have been a tremendous blessing. Others have also been a real blessing but it is hard to take pictures of someone giving a word of encouragement or sending sacrificial gifts. A special thanks to each of you that have supported Servant's Heart in so many ways.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=85http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=85Merry ChristmasA Point to Ponder.

We pause for a few moments to reflect on the significance of the day. Hammers, saws, backhoes, and delivery trucks all stop from our busy construction for a time to ponder. No doubt that you have experienced a "moment of silence" at a baseball game or some other social gathering to honor an event or a life that has made an impact on so many. It is for this reason, in which we pause to honor an event which has brought about a life that has brought change offered to the entire human race. It is because of this event, this life, that Servant's Heart Camp even exists.

In the Bible, Luke chapter 2 records the beautiful story of the birth of Jesus. As you follow the verses in this incredible chapter, the story is miraculously unfolded. Mary and Joseph make their way to Bethlehem to pay tribute to their government and upon arrival into the city limits they find no room to stay the night. Mary, being "great with child" must have a place to stay, as her delivery is drawing close. The only place available is a feeding place for the animals - a manger. It was here that Jesus Christ was born. The shepherds proclaimed, the angels praised, but notice in verse 19 that Mary "pondered." This word means to reflect; to bring together in one's mind. Back a few verses in verse 14, the angels from heaven proclaimed, "glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." The coming of Jesus brought peace and good will to mankind. Peace - in that man, in his natural condition, is at odds with God because of the fact of individual sin. The result of this condition is eternal separation from God forever in hell (Romans 3:23; 6:23). God, because of His unconditional love for all of mankind, sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to take the penalty for our sin. It was through this death, that God's wrath was appeased which brought peace with God to bring us back to unity or relationship with Him. It is through this that God has shown His good-will or favor. Mary pondered what was taking place.

So we take the time to pause all activity and, like Mary, ponder God's goodness. It is for this reason we choose to serve Him!

Merry Christmas!
Servant's Heart Camp

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=84http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=84Cabin SitesAs of today, we have the building permits and all the approvals to build 10 cabins. The sites for the five guy cabins were prepared during the work days in October. The sites for the five girl cabins should be ready within a week. (see picture)
In a step of faith, the board has decided to begin building the first six cabins as soon as possible. The problem we are facing, however, is that the mason needs a week of temperatures in the 30s to lay the foundations. The highest temperature in the 10 day forecast for Ramey is 25 degrees. We were hoping to get the cabins started before spring. We are considering the feasibility of putting a heated tent over each cabin until we have the foundations finished. If you know of a mason that would enjoy a challenge, have him contact us.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=83http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=83Special ThanksAbout one month ago, we had the privilege to share the ministry of Servant's Heart Camp at Red Lion Bible Church. After the service Pat and I chatted about the number of folks that asked for prayer cards. We were very impressed by their desire to pray for the ministry.
This week I received a call from Pastor Schmuck telling me that Red Lion Bible Church was adding Servant's Heart Camp as one of their missionaries. We are thankful for churches that are willing to support Servant's Heart, but we are very thankful for churches that also fervently pray for this ministry. A special thank you to the Red Lion Bible Church family.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=82http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=82God is still good!Usually, each post shares some blessing from God. Some of you may begin to think that we have not faced any challenges as we begin the process of developing this camp property. Allow me to share three recent challenges.
Early one morning, we noticed a trail of oil behind the backhoe. Because of a lack of knowledge of the hoe and the lack of tools, we decided to call someone to come and work on the backhoe. Unfortunately, we could not find a local mechanic that had time to check the leak. With the help of the neighbor, we finally tore apart the backhoe and found the leaking hose. Because it was Ford specific part we had to modify the tractor a bit to make the new hose fit. Finally about 2:30 in the afternoon, we got the backhoe back together. We topped off the oil reservoirs, with the hope of getting back to work. The tractor , however, would not move forward or backward. After lots of checking, we called the Ford dealer early the next morning. The mechanic drove the 1.5 hours one-way to work on the tractor. After he tore the tractor apart, he remembered that this particular tractor has two reservoirs for the transmission fluid. He added oil and everything worked fine. Yes, we lost a lot of time and we received $410.59 bill. Yes, God is still good!
A few days later, while we were dumping the new dump trailer (one week old), the hydraulic cylinder lifted right up in the center of the trailer and made a huge kink in the trailer (see picture). After many more hours of work, we reinforced the trailer and made it useable until the manufacturer could fix it correctly.
After a huge rain last Tuesday evening, the job site and lane turned into a wet spongy mess. A few days later, we ordered stones for the foundation. When the truck arrived at about 10:45, it got seriously stuck and sank almost into the axles. We tried to get it out with our backhoe, but to no avail. We finally ordered another load of stones. The drive was convinced that a truck with a full load could pull him right out. You guessed it! We now had two stuck trucks. About 4:30 that afternoon, we finally had both trucks our on their way home. Yes, it was a very stressful day.
No, I do not know why God allowed each of these adversities to come our way. I do know, however, that God is still good, and He has a purpose for everything. In one of these situations, I can already see why God allowed the problem. The mechanic that came to work on our backhoe had a serious accident back in June. The day he came to work on the tractor was his second day back to work. He came to the property with a “hope-so” salvation. Perhaps God brought him to our property to learn that he can have a firm assurance of his salvation. In each case, it is not our purpose to question God. It is our purpose to remain faithful to our faithful God. He is good!

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=81http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=81Mobile Kitchen - Thank you Gene WengerWe realize that because of time and finances, we will be unable to have a lodge with a kitchen for camp this summer. I talked to Gene Wenger of Gene Wenger Meats and Fine Foods about the possibility of renting his mobile kitchen. Almost immediately he told me that we were welcome to use his kitchen, but he would not take one penny for the use of it. We simply need to have a tractor haul it to the new property and provide insurance for the unit while we are using it. Wow, what a blessing. The portable kitchen has 4 ovens, a griddle, a grill, and several fryers. Campers - Are you ready for some freshly fried French Fries?
If you are looking for the best Ham Loaf on the planet stop by Gene Wenger's Meats in Elizabethtown. While you are there, thank him for his generosity to Servant's Heart Camp.

http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=80http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=801st Sponsored Cabin - Praise the Lord.Early last week, a friend of SHCM called and asked about the progress at the new camp. He also asked about the cabins and the cost of the cabins. I explained to him that we were expecting each cabin to cost about $20,000. He told me that he and his wife would like to sponsor a cabin. A few days later, SHCM received a check for $20,000. Praise God and Hallelujah. That was a real encouragement to our hearts.
This past week, I also spent some time with our engineers and the Clearfield County Conservation Office. It appears that we might be able to start building a cabin or two this fall. If you or someone you know, would be interested in helping to lay the block for the foundation, that would be a tremendous blessing.
To God be the Glory!

I am confident that it will be an exciting summer. Regardless if the staff is sleeping in cozy cabin or tattered tents, God is still able to do "exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think." If you know of a committed servant of God that would like to serve at Servant's Heart this summer, please have them submit an application. We need counselors, junior counselors, kitchen staff, office staff, and grounds staff. The theme is - Under Construction. How fitting. Campers may be staying in beautiful and cozy cabins or they may be staying in tents. The excitement is running high, and we are excited about next year's summer camp. The website has the dates, and we will be working on brochures and other details in the next few weeks.2010-10-14 16:33:14 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/constructionsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=77 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=76http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=76ShedOn Saturday evening, the trusses were set, the attic floor was installed, and the bracing was finished. We were checking our holes and making them as dry as possible. The building inspector arrived at about 9:00 and approved our holes. We immediately stopped and thanked the Lord for the answer to prayer. A few hours later two representatives from the Clearfield County Conservation office arrived. We were also praying specifically concerning their visit. Our prayer was that they would not stop the construction process until our NPDES permit is complete. When they arrived, I showed them our plans and gave them an overview of the property. Praise God, they gave the approval to start the next building immediately. We were digging stumps on the site within a few hours after they left. That was another specific answer to prayer. On Thursday morning, four men from APM arrived to start building the pole shed. In addition, many friends of the ministry arrived, set up their tents, and began on work projects. On Thursday and Friday evenings, we had a service in the big tent. It was a blessed time to gather together and praise God with the wonderful atmosphere of gas lights. It was a very special. Praise God!2010-10-08 18:58:56 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/rallysmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=75 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=74http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=74MudBecause a crew from APM was scheduled to arrive Thursday morning, we were desperately trying to get the mud out of our foundation holes. We were praying specifically that the building inspector would approve our holes and that we could pour the concrete on Wednesday so that it would be cured and ready to set posts on Thursday morning. On Tuesday it seemed impossible. The entire shed site including the holes were wet and muddy. 2010-10-06 18:58:36 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/mudsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=74 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=73http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=73Winterized KitchenSeveral of you were concerned about Mrs. Fry's kitchen. Well, it is now winterized. Ok, it is not exactly winterized, but we were very thankful for the small tent. We were debating if we were going to try to build the shed ourselves or if we were going to pay a contractor to build the shed. Although I have never met Chad, he called me earlier this week to tell me that the Lord had burden his heart to put a work team together and come build the shed. This morning he called to tell me that several APM employees would be coming this Thursday - Saturday to build the shed. The management is allowing these fellows to take the days off (with pay) to come an build the shed. The APM employees will be joined by several other contractors with a desire to be a blessing to the ministry. Thank you Chad and each one that will be coming next week and Praise God!2010-09-30 10:07:26 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/apmsmall.png http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=72 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=71http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=71Work DaysWe have scheduled three work days at the new property - October 7, 8, & 9. We would love to have you join us for 1, 2, or 3 days. Here are some of the things you will need to know.

You will need to provide your own RV, tent, van, etc. for sleeping. Currently, there is no electricity or running water on the property. - We do have a porta-potty. We have a limited number of tools. She has already prepared scores of meals over the open fire, but now she has a nice work area to prepare the food. 2010-09-22 20:59:53 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/kitchensmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=69 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=68http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=68BackhoeLast Monday evening, we found a backhoe listed on Craigslist. On Tuesday morning, Nathan went and looked at the hoe. As he traveled home, we chatted on the phone, and he described the hoe as the best that we have seen within our budget. That afternoon, I put a bank check in the mail with overnight delivery. They received the check on Wednesday and loaded the hoe. By 7:30 Thursday morning, the backhoe was on the property, and we were using it to dig stumps by 8:00. The unit is working great. We dug lots of stumps and cleared a large section for the new storage shed. When he heard that they were replacing all the mattresses, he thought of Servant's Heart Camp. This past Saturday, I went and looked at the mattresses. They are very high quality mattresses in excellent (almost new) condition. As soon as the new mattresses arrive at the children's home they will donate their "old" mattresses to Servant's Heart. Wow, what a blessing from God! 2010-09-13 18:59:32 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/bedsmall.png http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=67 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=66http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=66HomeWe have received the preliminary plans for the initial home on the property. The picture is a computer generated rendition of the completed home. The home has a finished basement with a separate entrance which can be used for speakers or other camp guests. At this point, we are debating on the exterior of the home, cabins, and lodge. Log siding is beautiful and campy, but it is very expensive and it require a great deal of maintenance. The board and batten (shown on this plan) is less expensive, but it still requires maintenance. Vinyl siding is the least expensive and also the least maintenance, but it does not give the campy look that we would like for our new property. The board has approved paying a builder to enclose the home. After the home is enclosed, we will seek volunteer labor to finish the building. Pray with us as we select a builder and also make the decision concerning the outside of the buildings. 2010-09-07 13:09:00 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/homesmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=66 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=65http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=65ShedToday, we order the first building for on the new property. We will immediately start the process of obtaining a building permit. As soon as we have the land cleared and the building permit in hand, we plan to start building the shed. If you are interested in helping construct this building, please let us know. We are permitted to build this shed and a home even before we have our land development plan approved. We are diligently working on the land development plan, but it still may be several months before we have that approval. For now, we can be working on the shed and a home. 2010-08-31 10:55:12 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/shedsmall.png http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=65 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=64http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=64Trees CutThis past Friday and Saturday, Nathan, Rusty B, Daniel B, and Tim B worked on cutting trees and burning tree tops. Rusty took a little break to do some chainsaw carving. 2010-08-30 12:50:36 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/treesmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=64 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=63http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=63Faith Bible ChurchThis week, Faith Bible Church in Mount Joy has increased the support for SHCM by $100.00 per month. While the extra money is a huge blessing, the prayer and moral support from the church is an even greater blessing. This increase is a tangible token of their heart-felt support. Thank you Faith Bible!2010-08-27 13:57:56 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/fbcsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=63 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=62http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=62NameIn December of 2001, this camping ministry was officially established as Servant’s Heart Camp Ministries. We frequently mentioned that we would adopt a new and more campy name when we had a permanent property. We would still be incorporated as Servant’s Heart Camp Ministries, but we would simply call the camp property by a different name. Now that we have this new property, we have mentioned the idea of a new name to several people and have received mixed responses. Some people like the idea of a new, campy name while others feel strongly that we should stay with the name that describes the heartbeat of the camp. Now, we are not sure what to do, so we want your opinion. Should we change our camp property name? Also, the authorities would like us to name the road entering the property. We have the liberty to give the road almost any name as long as the name is not already taken in the county. Wow, what a blessing to be able to name our own road. We would like a name that is significant to camp and/or spiritual in nature. It would be great if our road name would relate to the name of the camp. We need your help with this as well. Please tell us what you think. 1. Would you change the name? 2. If yes, what would you name it? 3. What should we name the road? If we choose your suggested camp name or road name, you will receive a $50.00 coupon toward any future camp. We WANT to hear from you, so please give us your creative ideas. Remember, there are no dumb ideas! 2010-08-26 08:36:38 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/shcmsmall.png http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=62 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=60http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=60TractorThis past Saturday morning, I received a call from Joe Wisner. He was at an auction and saw a John Deere 2030 with a front-end loader. I made a few calls about that model tractor, but I was told that we would not be able to buy that tractor with the amount we had budgeted. I did call Joe back and told him how high he could bid. a few hours later, he called back and told us that we bought a tractor. It was even $500.00 less that our budget number. To God be the glory! We are anxious to get the tractor on the property and put it to work. We have a 10 acre field that needs mowed and a lot of brush to be cleared. 2010-08-25 10:54:41 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/tractorsmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=60 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=59http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=59Rails to TrailsAlthough First Energy (the power company) told us that we may have extreme difficulties getting approval to cross the Rails to Trails, this week God answered our prayers. The Houtzdale Rails to Trails gave us approval to cross the trail with our utilities. The cost will be $200.00 per year. It is not exactly what we were hoping for, but we are thankful that it was not higher. We are still awaiting approval from the other land owner. The Rails to Trails borders almost the entire western side of the property. It will be a great place for hiking and biking. This is a picture of the Houtzdale Rails to Trails.2010-08-24 13:57:56 http://www.shcm.org/images/news_pix/railssmall.jpg http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=59 http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=58http://www.shcm.org/news.php?id=58UtilitiesCurrently, the property does not have any utilities. We met with the power company, and they told us it may cost $50,000 - $60,000 to bring the utilities in our driveway. If, however, we could bring the power from Route 253, it would be relatively inexpensive. To bring the utilities from route 253, we would need the approval from the Houtzdale Rails to Trails and another property owner. We have talked to the Houtzdale Rails to Trail and to another landowner.
