The word “wow” does not come close to describing what God has done in hearts this past summer. The word “wow” would need to come from a fully-automatic device that could fire the “wows” in rapid succession. Each week God worked in hearts in a mighty way. Let me give you just a few of the “wows.” The first teen week we saw several professions of faith. Already, we have received a report of a dynamic change in the one young lady.
She has already understood the importance of sharing her faith and striving to see her family and acquaintances come to Christ. Another of the “wows” of camp came as a counselor described to a young lady that Christ died on the cross for all of our sins. The counselor noticed the girl’s expression change and asked the girl what was wrong. With tears streaming down her face she asked why Jesus would allow Himself to be nailed on the cross of Calvary for us. Let me share one more salvation “wow.” One junior camper came to me and said “Mr. Fry, I need to talk to you. Could we talk tomorrow during free time?” The following day during free time, he came looking for me and said “Mr. Fry, can we talk? I am not sure I am saved.” Wow, what a privilege to help this young man fully understand the plan of salvation and have 100% assurance of his salvation. Oh yes, there were many “wows” at camp concerning other issues in life. Let me attempt a vivid “wow” picture in your mind’s eye. It is Friday evening around the campfire. One young man with a broken heart and a crackling voice shares how he believes that God has called him into full time service and has made the decision to go to Bible college. Another teen boy that was close by walks over to him and gives him a big hug. Stand with me and watch as they hug and sob and quietly say “I love you.” What an encouragement to me to see these young men encourage each other in their decisions for the Lord. Once again, I was wowed as I had the opportunity to watch God softening the hearts of young people.
